Welcome to our Montessori School
The Montessori School at Washington Avenue is dedicated to providing a nurturing and stimulating environment for children to grow, learn, and thrive. Our school has proudly served the San Leandro, San Lorenzo, and surrounding communities since 1991 offering an excellent educational approach based on the principles of Maria Montessori.
We believe each child is a unique individual with limitless potential. Our experienced and passionate teachers foster a love for learning by creating a hands-on and child-centered environment. We offer programs for children from the age of two through kindergarten, providing a seamless educational journey during these critical early years.
We are dedicated to cultivating lifelong learners who possess a love for knowledge, strong character, and the skills necessary to succeed in an ever-changing world. We invite you to join our close-knit community and experience the transformative power of Montessori education.
Our School Programs
Your two-year-old is rapidly developing into a competent, independent child ready to face new challenges. Our excellent program is designed to meet, support and develop your child’s emerging skills. Our curriculum develops essential social, emotional, and cognitive skills.
Nurture your child’s interest in learning by exploring language, including reading and writing, mathematics, sensorial, practical life competency skills, and studying plants, animals, geography, land and water forms, and continents and oceans in a culturally inclusive environment.
Marine animals, spiders, and insects are this summer’s great particular focus. We look at living insects, animals, and their habitats, three-dimensional models, puzzles to put together, books galore to read, and arts and crafts are just a part of the experiences the children will have this summer.
Things you should know
All teachers have state-required units in Early Childhood Education, CPR and First Aid Training, Mandated Reporter Training, and Criminal Background Checked. Most hold higher education degrees and Montessori credentials through Montessori accredited training programs or are currently in training to ensure we maintain highly qualified staff.
Our Montessori school follows the state requirement ratio of one teacher visually observing and supervising at most 12 children in attendance. Every classroom consists of a head teacher and two qualified assistants for a group as large as 36 students.
Our staff and children’s safety is our highest priority. Policies and guidelines are in place to provide a safe and healthy environment for all visitors, including: touchless attendance system, motion-detecting hand sanitizers, daily sanitizing and janitorial in a safe enclosed campus with external security cameras, access code entry, and a emergency disaster plan.
What families say about us
Every child is treated as an individual and the staff and teachers guide them to become caring and independent children. The teachers and school director truly care about every child and make their learning environment a successful and safe one.

Thank you for all your hard work for three years. Avash loves school and it’s easy to see why. I saw the active way you deliver lessons and encourage all students. We are pleased that our son is learning so much and ready for the next path of his life. Highly recommend this high quality preschool in San Leandro.
I am excited to share my positive experience with the Montessori school on Washington. Each day, my child looks forward to attending school. All the teachers have played a remarkable role in creating a safe and clean learning environment. I have personally witnessed numerous instances where these teachers genuinely care about the students and prioritize their well-being.
This school, specifically her teacher Ms. Alondra prepared her very well for elementary as she was equipped with the knowledge needed to excel in kindergarten. Ms. Alondra is super patient with kids, always eager to teach, has a passion for teaching, and always very encouraging. Till this very day, she still talks about Ms. Alondra and tells me and her current school teachers all the things she still remembers from when she was in her class.
